How SMS Tokens work and how to choose a package

SMS Tokens help your salon track messaging capacity. A message that appears as one bubble on a phone can still contain several billable segments. Understanding segmentation and checking the preview helps you buy for actual use.

01Separate messages from SMS segments

Length and encoding determine how many SMS segments a message uses. Do not multiply customer count by one Token and treat that as a guaranteed cost.

The SMS Tokens page estimates capacity using your account's conversion rate. For a campaign, use the system estimate for the actual content and selected audience.

02Count the business name and ending too

Final messages can include the business name, a rates notice and STOP instructions. These contribute to length, so counting only the promotional sentence is not enough.

Personalised names can change the length for individual recipients. Preview a selected customer, especially when names are long or content is close to the limit.

03Work within the editor's limits

Tap2Check-In Marketing SMS uses GSM-7 and limits the editor body to 290 encoding units. Some special characters count as two units; emoji are removed before counting. Use the editor's validation for the actual message.

The complete baseline message with the default customer name must fit two SMS Tokens. A longer personalised name may extend that recipient to three Tokens within the supported limits. This is a Marketing rule, not a universal cap for booking reminders or transactional messages.

04Choose a package around your sending pattern

Estimate reminders, aftercare and promotional campaigns separately. For campaigns, count eligible recipients and the estimated personalised Token usage rather than the entire contact list.

Compare the estimate with available balance and bucket expiry. Package prices appear on Pricing; check the current purchase details in your account's SMS Tokens page. A larger package is not automatically better just because its unit price is lower.

05Review balance and outcomes after sending

SMS Tokens shows available, added, used and expiring Tokens alongside recent transactions. Recent activity is not necessarily the complete ledger.

A positive balance does not mean every message will send. Opt-outs and missing marketing consent can cause a message to be skipped, as can insufficient Tokens. Read the outcome before topping up or retrying; customer preferences must still be respected.

Frequently asked questions

Does one SMS always cost one Token?

Do not assume that. Messages can span segments and account conversion rates can differ. Use the system estimate for the final content.

Are the 100 Tokens added every month?

The 100 Tokens belong to the trial, rather than a recurring Starter allowance. Check your account's current balance and terms.

What should the salon check before sending?

Tap2Check-In handles messaging registration. Focus on content, balance and customer permission, and contact support if your account requests assistance.
